how do i change the oil in my harley softail,just purchased used without owners manual?
2004 harley softail standard. i have the oil and filter but no manual
Do not listen to some of these folks they are ignorant !!!!this is how it is done you have three seperate oil chambers on you Hog . 1engine,2 primary,which is clutch oil and 3 transmision this is how to change the engine under your oil tank there is a tube that goes down through your frame on your right side you will find a allen bolt there to drain your oil .be carefull when you take off your oil filter not to damage the plastic sensor on your engine engine oil is three quarts 20-50 every 2000 miles next is your primary -clutch which is on the left side of engine the big cover with a circle and a oval cutout , at the rear of the cover at the bottom of it is a allen bolt remove it to drain clutch oil one quart 20- 50 what I use in them all , to fill remove oval cover that has 4 bolts, transmisson is also one quart 20-50 I use rev tech personal preferance . The tranny bolt is between the softail shocks in the middle under the motorcycle may take a mirror to find . To fill it is on the right side in a oval part on the foward end in about a 2 o`clock position, large about a 5/8 chrome allen, 20-50 revtech in mine others will disagree transmisson and primary should be changed every 4000 hope this is helpful ride on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
