Do I have to put longer cables on if I go from 10″ factory ape hangers to 12″ aftermarket ape hangers?
 

On a 2009 Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob I want to upgrade from the factory 10″ ape hangers to a set of 12″ Z Bar ape hangers. Do I have to put longer cables on or will the 2″ difference be no big deal?

you should be able to find enough slack in the cables and wiring to make the change since its only 2 inches. i have changed handle bars on several bikes, and there is usually enough play to make the change without buying all new cables, unless you are going radical. the biggest problem i run into is the brake line being too short. this can also be solved by a minor modification in the way the line is pre bent from the factory.

for instance, going from drag bars to apes, yes, you will have to replace some cables and possibly splice or lengthen wiring.

from 10 in apes to 12 in apes, all you will probably have to do is some minor re routing of cables and wiring.

most important of all, make sure nothing is in a bind or catches or pinches when you turn the handlebars. if it doesn’t work right, make it right before you ride.
