How do I remove melted micro-fibre cloth crud from chrome pipes on my Harley Davidson?

I have accidently brushed a micro-fibre cloth onto my HOT chrome pipes, and now there is black crud left. I have been using Mother’s Chrome Polish, which is working slowly, but very labour intensive. Is there anything I can use to remove the thicker, black crud, before using the polish for it’s proper use? I’ve read about using oven cleaner, lacquer thinner, WD40, aluminium foil, and applied on both hot and cold pipes.

Easy Off oven cleaner will do the trick. DO NOT use steel wool, razor blades or other metallic scraping tools.
