Can I change the gas tank on a fuel injected Harley Sportster?
Im looking into buying a Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom. They only have a 4.5 gallon tank and I would like to put a set of Fat Bobs on it. Is it possible to do this being the fuel pump is in the tank? I normally will ride between 250 and 500 miles at a time when I get out. I dont want to fill up every 100 miles.
There are after market companies making cutom tanks, but the expense is not worth it. Figure about $1k for a custom TANK not tankS, about $500-1000 for paint to match the bike, about $1000 for custom fabrication to mount the tank and you will have $2500-3000 wrapped up in it.
Even with a hi-flo air cleaner, exhaust and tuning, the bike will average around 40-45mph, so a refill every 150 miles is not bad….it’s average.
