Triumph Rocket III Touring vs Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic?
im saving up for a motorcycle. its come down to these two. i like the looks, sounds, and overall presence of the harley more, but the triumph is actually cheaper to buy usually, and insurance costs less. not to mention it has that beastly 2300cc engine. mostly im curious about which is more reliable. since both probably will require roughly the same amount to buy and insure and put gas in the tank, which one has better reliability? i dont want to have trouble with replacing parts alot.
The Harley is probably more reliable and longer-lived.
I rented a Heritage Softail a couple of years ago and, even though I’m not a cruiser person, I thought it was the most wonderful ride in the world. It wasn’t particularly fast–I mean it would do 100 mph all day without breathing hard but took its own sweet time getting up there. And I didn’t like the seating position and the high handlebars. But the bike had charms that more than made up for that. If you wanted to cross a continent on a bike, this would be THE bike.
The Triumph is a different kind of bike altogether. The Harley is big for stability and stamina, the Triumph is big for speed. Plus I think it carries its weight a lot higher. The Harley was just incredibly easy to manage despite its daunting weight and size. The Triumph would be a little more of a handful. British bikes have a certain unmistakeable class about them, but they’re not practical.
