is a harley davidson sportster a softail?

Is a harley sportster the same as a softail? I bought a cap for my oil tank and it said that it was compatable with softail models. I assumed that my sportster is a softtail because it has rear shocks but now im having doubts. Can someone help me figure this out asap so i can stop the order if i have to before they ship it out?

No it isn’t.Your Sportster is part of the XL bikes.A Softail is a big twin from the FLH bikes. The oil cap will not fit your bike. These people telling you your bike is a Softail have no clue what they’re talking about.A Softail is a model Harley makes that has a frame that looks like an old school rigid frame.
