Harley Davidson Sportster Road Test
Harley Davidson Sportster Road Test

OK, you've just bought an old motorcycle: Sportster, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki or another for a grand prize and the person who purchased swear that: It is just set was meticulously maintained that it was rebuilt only done 1,500 miles was just put in the garage, basement, shed, barn or other place for "some time" sound familiar?
I made more than my share of old house motorcycles and lessons that you can save a large amount of aggravation by taking a few simple steps and spend money in advance before it was the sound of his new 1986 IPB 1300. Before I wrote this guide for old Harley Sportster, but applies to most bikes. Simply insert where I put the carbs and sugars if they are sure to fuel injection as the filter on the pressure side of the pump fuel.
Here goes:
1. Buy a service manual.
2.Throw distance gas. Empty the tank, look for rust and debris in the fuel. Look at the last cup or two of fuel, full of mold, no water in it? If so remove the tank and cleaning.
3.Drain carbohydrates, check the fuel leaving the carburetor, do you have mold or water in? If so, try running a certain methanol and followed by the clean gas. If the carburetor floods press it with a screwdriver handle. If the float sticks still clean the carburetor. You could having to rebuild it. Put a filter cheap online on the bike this trap is part of the mess he did not believe in the reservoir.
4.Replace plugs, which cost a lot and that shit fast enough iron in my head.
5.Check the son of candles, unless you really are replaced. If in doubt replace them.
6.Replace points and condenser. (Do not know the distance? View the first step)
7.Replace the battery if it really makes the bike faster and you know it's new. When picking out your new battery receives an offer battery, you'll need it. In my humble opinion, the charging system in most Sportia is low.
8.Check each wire and the connection can be done so they are clean and tight.
9.Check all nuts, bolts and screws of the bike. Make sure they are: 1. However, there are two. Tight. Many of them will not.
10.Change all fluids. I use things Harley. If you do not agree to ensure that everything we use is consistent with manufacturer's specifications.
11.Check the tire pressure. While your there, look closely at your tires. Your life depends on it. If you replace your tires are shot. It's cheaper and easier than growing a new skin after the capsizing.
12.Lube all. Pay attention to your chain, cables and brake linkages (if any). You do not really want break the chain and exit the throttle to stick wide open or the brakes fail when you take your bike to travel in the first race!
Nine times out of ten, when I put an old bike that has bad gas, bad caps, bonding of the fleet, defective battery or four. It is much easier than going through these steps with hand tools in a warm, well lit side of the road in the dark when it rains. After passing through these steps, you will probably find that the bike works. If it does not break your new manual and start shooting problems.
