What is a good, light motorcycle for an experienced woman rider?
I have a Buell Blast and while I love how light it is and how I sit up and forward in the seat, it is simply not enough power (500cc, single cylinder engine). I’ve been looking at the Honda Spirit and the Harley Sportster. Do you have any recommendations?
Light and Harley- Geez, that doesn’t equate with me, but my Harley weighs over 800 pounds with gear.
I, too, am an experienced woman rider and if you are looking at a more powerful bike, I wouldn’t be as concerned with the overall weight as much as finding the center of gravity- and if you can keep your legs solidly underneath you if you are rolling backwards down a curb. As I’m sure you know, the bike that is the right height for you on level ground may be just an inch or two too high when you go to park.
I personally find the Sportsters to be too top-heavy even if they are light- and many women need to have lowering kits put on them. Go into dealerships and sit on several bikes. See which one fits. If you do go Harley, the Crossbones feels like it was designed for a woman. It sits low, the mini ape-hanger style bars can be brought back towards you, and the lack of front rake should give you good stability. Deuces are also great, but they don’t make them anymore. Buying a used Harley has it benefits, though. Less expensive, and someone else put the extra money into it already for you to possibly change pipes.
Whatever bike you get, please do yourself a favor and get yourself engine guards right off. Better to scratch the guards than your legs- or the paint.
