Question about Harley Davidson?
I've had two Sportster for a total of 7 years now and have been fantastic as far as reliability goes. Now I have the opportunity to buy a Softail 2004. I wanted to know is this, are the great Harleian as reliable as the Sportster? Or should I wait and maintenance faults high. If you respond by trashing HD, I wonder why hang around to read the questions if they hate Harlie?. Maybe you had a girlfriend or a wife stolen by a rider Haley.
Like everyone else said … IF … that would be a bicycle reilable, if properly maintained. It is a topic well …. How many miles are on it?? The cam chain tensioner s have to be inspected between 20-30k miles … They are known to go wrong, the design of the chain is very poor and causes excessive wear and premature tensioners and sprockets. Most of the chains and tensioners are triggered between 30-40k miles, I have also seen last 45k and completely exhausted in 15k miles. If they go wrong is a sure thing that you need an oil pump as well. When the tensioners are due to replace HD makes an excellent upgrade to update the cam, sprockets, chains, tensioners and oil pump to the hydraulic tensioners and the new 07-high pump oil flow, the total work will cost about $ 1000 at this point would be a good idea to have a good camera system installed ANDREWS (if the cams in the bike still stock), because everything is already apart, Now is the time to do so.
