What's the deal with HARLEY 96 "Big Twin??
I made up my mind I'm selling my two Sportster and my SV650 and I want a Heritage Softail or RoadKing a Classic … I had a Softail Springer and normal RoadKing before with 88 "twincam. ………………. But I am listening to the 96" is overheating evil, to the point where they have to stop and get off the bike. HD is going to fix this? THIS IS BS because they really want. Is it fixed pipes, air filter and tuner career?
I have the 96 "engine in my 07 road king classic. I have put 11,000 miles on it in the past year. The first time you got it, yes, it was hot. But it was never so hot that I had to pull over or the engine started pinging. The only time he felt was at traffic lights. As the other said, it is hot because it is running so lean. And you have to run lean to meet new emission standards. But who buys a Harley and let action in the pipes? Once you change the pipes have to change the fuel system. Rineharts put a power commander, and a series of programs hypercharger on my bike after about 6,000 miles. With the commander of power that can control exactly how much fuel the bike for each throttle setting and rpm. Tubes Rinehart also includes oxygen sensor eliminators. From what I read, that changes the air fuel ratio so the bike always runs lean. To me that means getting rid of them. The bike runs much cooler now. Yes, it is cooled, so it still gets hot when you're not moving but not uncomfortable. I'll add that I live in southern Georgia, and it gets very hot in the summer. Never had a problem with overheating. Get the bike, just that a minimum richen the fuel system.
