oil quanity ’97 883 sportster?

My 883 leaks oil at higher rpm/speeds from between the oil tank and battery area when full to 3 qts. Idling or driving slow its okay. I ve been told Harleys have an Operating range for oil quanity and maybe even if I have serviced it to full by the manufacturers specs, I may have over filled it. Is this true, or may I have a more serious problem? Thanx

if there is too much oil it will have to come out. if you do not do it, the machine will blow it out the vent into the air cleaner.
you may also have a weak spring in the check ball valve at the oil pump, allowing oil to drain into the crankcase (wet sumping). this will blow out all over your right leg and right side of the bike.
finally, check that you do not have a leaky oil line or connection at the back or bottom of the oil tank. that can be messy, too.
