harley carb issue? ideas needed please?
i have a 96 sportster with a 1200 kit, high compression pistons, over sized jet kit, mild cams, and a hyper charger. here lately after its warmed up sometimes when its cruising at a constant speed (50 and up)it spits and sputters on the highway cutting out spontanously. Accelerating stops it from sputtering. it tends to run better the lower the rpm. when i accelerate quickly it sputters for a fraction of a second then takes off like its supposed to. i noticed a little choke helps but doesn’t cure the problem. it doesnt do this all the time. some days it will run fine others its like a turd. lol any ideas to prevent me from going to the harley shop is very appreciated
Fuel starved, likely causes
Sticky float needle
Clogged / obstructed main jet
Clogged / obstructed fuel filter (at petcock in tank)
Pull the float bowl, look for debris clean main and pilot jets
Remove float needle and clean orifice
Remove petcock and clean filter.
You may also want to check for an air leak at the manifold, but the intermittent nature sounds like junk in the float bowl.
