is my harley charging?
How much ac output voltage should be coming from the stator of a 1988 sportster. I have already replaced the stator and voltage regulator. I am only getting 12.6 volts with lights on….Do I need to replace the rotor? Thanks.. From the stator I am only putting out 24 ac volts.
Coming off the stator, check the three pairs of wires (right and left, right and middle, middle and left). If the AC voltage is equal on all three pairs, then the stator is fine regardless of what the voltage is. If one pair is less than the others, the stator is bad.
A heavy amperage draw is going to pull the voltage down even when everything is fine. This draw includes charging up the battery after starting or the system attempting to fully charge a bad battery that’s unable to take a full charge.
