Harley Sportster Wiring Harness
I have a harley sportster 1989. A few days ago I picked up a set of front and rear steering. Now the old?
sigals turn on the border two cables, and in the back was one of the cables. The new lights have two wires. I went ahead and the old harness driver ran Power rear-end power cords (two of them left and right) in the harness. The lights work and all come in the front and rear but when you press the switch to make opening and closing off the front and back is made brighter. This is seperatly if I hit the left signal the light goes left and left rear signal becomes brighter. so my question is if the bike has to be switched on to work? It also signals old harley turn were a single cable. Does that have anything to with it?
This is a bit of a guess (but actually I'm an electrician) but I think they have new wrong signals to the front of the bike. I'll try to explain my theory but do not have in Australia, I think a lot of bikes in the U.S. have "Lights up" with cable in the box with flashing light. These are found throughout the time I think and only the front. Harley used the real indicator assembly as the negative connection (so you only need a cable to the rear). The two cables coming out of the bike in the front will be the positive aspects operating light and indicator. The two balloons / filaments share a common connection through the mounting negative indicator. The new indicators have only two wires, positive and negative. The mount point does not act as a negative connection. In the front of the bike, I think you have connected the running light + ve and indicator + ve to each side of a balloon. The operation lamp + ve is that there is feedback through the world filament circuit indicator. That's why the lights rear light. When the indicator switch is pressed, the + ve of the running lights flashing totally throws light can hit and no runs. What you can do is to find the running light + ve and disconnect (make sure it is well insulated). Connect the cable from the spare is now a solid base indicator (-ve). This should get your blinkers work, but you will not have running lights. Or you could buy a new cable to operate the lights.
