What else is going to vibrate off my Harley?
I bought my 1st Harley about 2 months ago (LOVE it), but it is a solid-mount EVO and it shakes like a wet dog! Not that I mind that, but things seem to just fall off the bike after trips of an hour or more. Starting to get on my nerves! 1st it was my mirror falling off, then my points cover, and now today the damn horn broke off (I saw it come loose & pulled over before the wires snapped so I saved it from hitting the pavement).
Now, I know that this comes with the territoy here, I just would like a heads-up on what parts or bolts I should be tightening before or after a long trip. It is a Softail with a souped-up S&S EVO engine. BTW I have been using locktite (blue) on anything that has come loose on me so far, but even that does not hold up for long (in the case of the mirrors, anyway).
Any help here?
stroker motor + solid mounts = bike shake
wash your bike, and check everything, grab and shake, if it moves check it for tightness.
get a service manual for your bike, I know it’s an S&S motor, but in the book it will give you torque spec’s on everything plus a list of critical fasteners.
If you bought this bike used please check the axle nuts and spokes (if it has spokes). people have the tendency of overlooking spokes. also the the swing arm and the motor mounts.
Now check it for leaks, the days of marking your territory are over! the only leak that gets expensive to fix is the oil pump. You have to replace it to fix it due to the warpage of the oil pump plates and if you don’t have adjustable pushrods you have to tear down the rockers and the cam cover.
